Find a really good Butcher or Game dealer

Quality Butchers are listed showing where they are accredited by either The Guild of Q butchers (130 butchers - high technical standards and meat quality) or The Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) (50 butchers)



Ask the butcher to make sure the meat has been allowed to mature naturally and slowly and that the meat is properly aged.

Choose a rare or native breed

rather than a commercial breed introduced for high fast yields and little taste - Over 35 producers and suppliers of 4 rare and native Breeds of Turkey and Duck are listed many of whom also rear rare breed chickens.


Choose an animal which is reared naturally with very high welfare standards

250 Certified Organic producers are listed including those certified by The Soil Association, Demeter (biodynamic), Organic Farmers and Growers, Scottish Organic Producers Association (SOPA) and the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers. Its a well kept secret that Organic welfare standards are much higher than free range or freedom foods particularly for Chickens eg Organic allows 4X (Free Range) the outdoor space for them to roam in.
