Local Food Restaurants

localfoodadvisor.com lists over 300 ‘local food restaurants’ and their awards (see Restaurant Guides below) which have been listed based on one of the following two broad requirements;

Restaurants which use quality local produce whenever possible, where the cooking style is British (Modern or Traditional) or its equivalent for the UK Regions eg Modern Scottish cooking and where the quality of the cooking has been verified by inclusion in either the Good Food Guide or the AA ‘Best of British’ Restaurant Guide or through multiple consumer recommendation. In many cases, they also showcase local and regional recipes and specialities. We haven’t included Michelin Guide ratings as many critics accuse them of favouring classical French dining. Terry Durack, for example, (The Independent food critic) believes Michelin is no longer that important. "It used to be the be-all and end-all but, at some point in the 1990s, they lost the plot," he says "I now associate Michelin with expensive, old-fashioned food taken in hushed, boring dining rooms."
Restaurants and cafes which are part of or attached to award winning producers or Farm shops – eg. A restaurant which is part of an award winning Farm shop where you can eat top quality local food. In these cases no Restaurant Guide listing or Consumer recommendation is required.
